There are certain projects where water needs to be turned off to certain areas of the house. When water is turned off to the bathroom, the room often goes unused for the duration of the project. This doesn’t mean that a tool like the toilet needs to go unused. A toilet can still be used with a little bit of preparation.

Using a bucket of water

The main function of a modern toilet is to flush human waste down a pipe. This function doesn’t have to be accomplished through mechanical means. If there is still water available somewhere around the premises, the toilet can still be flushed. Go to the hardware store and buy an average bucket. This will hold around four gallons of water. One bucket will equal about one regular toilet flush. When you are finished using the toilet, just pour the water in to the toilet. This will act as a ‘flush’ and keep the toilet functioning without running water.

Baggies in the toilet

For those times when the no water can be used, use plastic bags to hold the waste. These bags can be held down by the toilet seat, allowing the each back to hold the weight of dropping waste. When finished, just tie up the bags and deposit in an outside trash receptacle.
