Close the valve on the water line that supplies your water heater. Go outside and locate the main water meter for your home. It is usually inside of a box that is buried in the ground near the street. Lift the cover off the receptacle and clear away any dirt and debris so that you can see the dial on the meter. Check to see if the meter is running. You may have a hidden leak if you have shut off all the water in your home and the meter is turning.
