Home Water Filters

Stay Healthy With a Home Water Filter

For many of us whose homes are supplied water from a community source, the days of enjoying a cooling drink of water from the kitchen tap might be gone. Chlorination and other safety precautions aren’t keeping water quality from deteriorating in many areas due to aging systems and increased contaminants.

What can you do to protect yourself and your family? As an informed citizen you can monitor government officials’ work to make sure they are consistently providing safe tap water. For immediate protection, consider filtering water within your home.

Point-of-Use Filters

The most common, easiest to maintain, and least expensive point-of-use filters are faucet-mount, under-the-sink, and pitchers. Some plumbing modifications may be required for under-the-sink installations. Activated carbon absorbs impurities as the water passes through. Multistage systems are effective against lead, chlorine, bacteria, parasites, and chemicals. The highest number of contaminants is eliminated by a reverse osmosis system.

Point-of-Entry Filters

Installation of whole-house filtration is usually in a basement or outside the home. Dirt, sediment, and rust can be removed by these filters, but point-of-use filters are still needed to remove microbial contaminants.

The good news is there are home water filters to fit anyone’s budget or preference. Even professionally installed comprehensive systems can be reasonable. Any of these options are effective to ensure your glass of water is safe and as refreshing as it should be.
