pipe-leaksWhat to do when you find a leak

There’s an unfortunate truth that all plumbers know: homeowners ignore small leaks. It could be that they think it’s not a big deal, that it won’t cause any damage, or that they just don’t want to call a plumber because they want to save money. However, even small leaks can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.

The first step to leak detection is keeping your eye out for one. We’re not saying that once a week you need to throughly inspect all the piping in your home, but you should:
-Keep yourself from putting too much clutter under your sinks. This prevents you from seeing the problem.
-Pay attention to any musty smells in cabinets or in your laundry room. This is generally the first sign of mold.
-Look for spikes in your water bill. A spike is generally a sign of a leak.

Once you’ve found a leak, it’s time to call us. While you wait for us to arrive, you can:
-Put a pan or bowl under the leak to catch the water.
-Turn off the water supply if it’s a large leak
-Wrap the plumbing joints in paper if you can’t find the exact source of the leak, but you know there is one. The wet paper will point to the problem.
-Move all items out of the way.
